Imagine ....

Image
Strawberry Fields Memorial , Central Park, New York City, 2010 A tribute to John Lennon (1940 - Dec.1980) John & Yoko's apartment was across the street. "Imagine" is one of my favourite songs by John Lennon. It was a toss-up, but I've decided to include another powerful Lennon song as my Christmas tribute and wish to you! Enjoy these  timeless lyrics by  John and Yoko ... So this is Christmas, a nd what have you done? Another year over, and a new one just begun And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun The near and the dear ones, the old and the young Chorus: A very Merry Christmas And a happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear And so this is Christmas, for weak and for strong For rich and the poor ones, the road is so long And so happy Christmas, for black and for white For yellow and red ones, let's stop all the fight So This is Christmas song by John Lennon Me at the John Lennon Memorial, Central Park, NYC, 2010

Dividing Time

Kankin symbol of the Mayan Calendar, Ek Balam Pyramid site, Mexico, 2015 Remember when  the Mayan calendar  ended on the Winter Solstice of  December 21, 2012 and  something catastrophic was to occur in the world? Hmmm... perhaps 8 years later? The interpretation was actually meant to signal the end of a 5000 year calendar cycle and the beginning of a new positive era of transformation for the earth... let's hope the shift is happening!  In the photos, we stand on a large circular Mayan calendar near Ek Balam pyramid. These are the astrological symbols for "roughly" our birth months, as the Mayan calendar had 365 days and 18+ months!  As we near the end of 2020, it is interesting to consider the many different cultural calendars and symbols that have evolved over the centuries.  Why 12 months in a year, seven days in a week, or 60 minutes in an hour?  Calendar inventors were guided by the revolving of the stars, moon, planets, and seas...

Only in Canada, Eh?

Ice fishing at Montreal Lake, Saskatchewan, January 2017 Not only can we walk on water, we can drive on it! It's called 'winter' and 'ice' fishing in Canada! Totally naive to the art of modern-day ice fishing, we witnessed the large auger swiftly bore holes through ice over one 'foot' thick (30 cm in Canada 😊). Next, in seconds, a tent is popped up over the fishing holes. But, oddly, our fishing rods are mere old-school sticks with a line attached. C onstant shifting, expanding and contracting of ice below us,  released loud moans and creaking. It reminded us that nature is always in control... and the occasional sharp thunderclap sent shudders down the spines of us newbies, fearing we might break through to the frigid watery depths. Entering the blackness of the tent from  the bright snow and sunlight , our eyes adjusted. Inside was an amazing sight. The fishing holes were actually G L O W I N G in the darkness, as if energized by an internal light source...

Checkerboard Floor

Studio, Saskatoon, 2020. When I was young, I thought having a checkerboard floor in a house would be very cool...  one day. Fast forward to 2017. We 'unexpectedly' sold our Prince Albert home with a possession date of November 1 - only a few months to prepare.  We were moving to our condo in Saskatoon  and I had no idea where I would store all my art 'stuff' and whether I would be able to set up my studio there. I called a dear artist friend in Saskatoon who was delighted to hear the news! Her current studio partner had just been offered a job out of province, and would be moving mid-October! So, it was the perfect clay studio space to share!  Call it good luck, good fortune, perfect timing, catching green lights, a small miracle, synchronicity, coincidence, serendipity, the Universe having your back... whatever you will. We all savour those aligning moments when we feel so blessed and grateful for how things work out! And, here I am, standing in our clay studio with...
