The Essentials

In suitcase packing mode. Nov. 2021 We are excited to be traveling again, soon. But, it is fair to say that everytime we go away, I really don't enjoy packing. And, I do regret that I don't like it. Poor me! Right? I don't know why that is, but I'm sure many of you feel the same way. Perhaps the challenge lies in decisions that have to be made to fit into a suitcase.  Predicting  entire life  needs, I tend to take along too much. I'm working at changing my packing-mindset by focusing on what is most essential. I've thought much about the people evacuated from areas of forest fires, war, and now, devastating floods. It is so heartbreaking. With little warning, they must flee and grab what they can. But all of them will tell you that ... "none of the things really matter." In dire circumstances, getting loved ones out, including animals, and helping your neighbour is most important. What comes next is uncertain. So, in an ever-changing world with no gua...

Midway on the Midway

On the USS Midway, National Museum. San Diego, California, 2017 Sorry, no ferris wheel on this midway! I'm standing smack in the centre of the flight deck on the aircraft carrier USS Midway. It was a glimpse of life for the naval officers and crews onboard. The expanse of the flight deck, where the aircraft could take-off and land at sea, was a remarkable feat of engineering.  I could leave out all these details, because the moral of this story is about experiences we've enjoyed more than "expected." Expectati...

Netflix and Chips

After the conversation starts to dwindle, we get to the question that we have been burning to ask our friends or family...   What are you watching?  The only thing better than a great series is finding out the second season has just come out and is as good as the first! There is a certain satisfaction, like diving back into a good book, when that time of evening arrives after a busy day, and we settle in ... in front of the TV. Binge watch instead playing a game or reading? You bet! Now excuse me while I put some potato chips into a small bowl. You can become a zen couch potato by never taking the entire bag to the couch, only munching on weekends, with fun or funny. Okay, I'll tell you ours -- Ted Lasso  (Apple TV) and  Only Murders in this House (Disney +)
