The Essentials

In suitcase packing mode. Nov. 2021

We are excited to be traveling again, soon. But, it is fair to say that everytime we go away, I really don't enjoy packing. And, I do regret that I don't like it. Poor me! Right? I don't know why that is, but I'm sure many of you feel the same way. Perhaps the challenge lies in decisions that have to be made to fit into a suitcase.  Predicting entire life needs, I tend to take along too much.

I'm working at changing my packing-mindset by focusing on what is most essential. I've thought much about the people evacuated from areas of forest fires, war, and now, devastating floods. It is so heartbreaking. With little warning, they must flee and grab what they can. But all of them will tell you that ... "none of the things really matter." In dire circumstances, getting loved ones out, including animals, and helping your neighbour is most important. What comes next is uncertain. So, in an ever-changing world with no guarantees, I deeply appreciate that I am safe. We cannot take for granted an opportunity to live in, or explore another part of this beautiful world -- by our own choice.

Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgivings and turn routine jobs into joy ... "

This post is dedicated to those in BC struggling with flood aftermath and for anyone with fears about an unpredictable future.
