Pigeon Party
Iridescent collars of purple, green, and blue shimmer as they strut. I drop a crumb near my feet to catch their ever vigilant eyes. And yes, they scramble in from afar. On a beach or in a busy city square, almost everywhere in the world the pigeon makes itself at home. The notion of "home" with birds and their nests is a common thread in my art.
I've marveled at the incredible senses that animals possess... particularly in returning to places, even when planted 1000s of kilometers away. Pigeons, known for their exceptional navigation skills, use a variety of means such as the sun, magnetism, even landmarks to guide them home.
The dove usually gets better press than the pigeon, but I'm told their difference lies in name only. A superstition that is attached mainly to pigeons is that if their droppings land on you, you will have good luck! If that happened to you, tell us your story, you lucky shit!
