Same Same But Different
“In diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” – Maya Angelou.
If you read my last post you might be thinking that title "Same Same But Different" seems familiar. I used the saying in reference to changing up routines. And, don't we know that many will be back to routine soon, as I've heard that we don't like to be reminded of the other word -- school. Remember the annoying "Back to Skool" flyers that used to arrive in July? Anyway, interestingly, I ran across my idea notes for a rhyming children's storybook that I drafted about a year ago. Coincidentally, I had titled it ... you guessed it... Same Same But Different. (See excerpt below.) The message was inspired because of all the divisive attitudes in the world to which young children are being exposed. I look forward to illustrating it one day, but my project ideas often get ahead of me. For now, you can imagine what my illustrations might be!
Same Same But Different
Some like dogs; others prefer a fluffy cat.
Some vote this way (yes!!), others vote that (noo!!)
Some like meat and potatoes, while others like it spicy hot.
Some love their jazzy blues while others country pop.
Some prefer to lead, others like to help or follow.
Some like it super fast, others slow and mellow.
Some like to read or write when others do the math.
Some like a place to pray or choose a different path.
Some dance or doodle art, while others play a sporty game.
Differences make the world so cool, but what makes us the same?
Remember that we're all human and we're perfect just this way.
Be kind and embrace our differences each and every day, okay!
